So, I guess you have to start somewhere. For me, this started because a friend taught me how to crochet one day as we were sitting around trying to not be bored during a game. This was a Traveler d20 game, for those of you who know what that is. For those who don't, the short of it is that it is a tabletop roleplaying game using 20 sided dice. But this is about crocheting, not gaming.
She took the time out to show me how to do the first stitches that I had to learn. The next day she stopped by my house and gave me a starter book on how to crochet granny squares and a ball of yarn and a case to put my crochet hooks in. Little did I know then what this would start.
At first, it took me forever to do simple rows. I made myself a scarf, and other scarves. These aren't all straight, and many vary in width along the length. But, I was learning. I had to concentrate on what I was doing, and it took all of my attention to make these simple objects. As I went on, I wanted to do more complicated patterns, so I went back to the book I had been given.
I tried to attempt one of these, and discovered that I loved to do the different types of stitching. I could make so many more interesting designs when the stitches combined than by doing just one stitch all the way through. I started to make a blanket for one of my friends. This time I not only used different stitches, but experimented with color.
I have always been obsessed with how colors go together and how placing one color next to another can make it look completely different. This blanket was grey, dark green, and a cobalt blue. It was a simple pattern, but to this day is still one of my favorite patterns. And she still loves the blanket.
Since then, I've been hooked (pardon the pun) on crocheting. It has become my passion, and I love the time of day that I can sit down with my yarn and pattern books and decide what the next project is going to be. This is the beginning of how it started, and I want to share my passion with you.
